Unraveling: Generational Traumas & Conditioning
take a deep breath for this one
Generational trauma is specific DNA memory that have been passed down in family lineages. This can affect us in the way that we behave, how our bodies respond physiologically, and how we accept conditioning from society.
For example—when colonizers came to my recent ancestors’ indigenous land, social class systems were imposed on their communities. Religion was forced into their spiritual practice. As my shamanic teacher Scott would call it, Cutting the Crown. The crown being the crown chakra, the seat of the Divine connection to Source/God and to all that is. Indigenous cultures were deeply connected to the Earth and had their own personal relationship with plants, animals, and the elements. Over generations, my ancestors were conditioned to move away from their sacred practices in order to accept Western ways of life. If not, they would be shunned, persecuted, or even killed.
One of the ways generational trauma has shown up in my present life is not being able to express my unique connection to the Divine. (This also has to deal with a past life of mine, but that is for another time.) Even as I type this, I ask for guidance to speak my truth so that maybe other people will realize that speaking their truth is the liberation they seek. I was so fearful of losing people I care about because I did not choose to remain Catholic. It’s not that I don’t believe in God. That is far from my truth. After removing the middle man, I’ve never felt more connected to God.
So how did I heal this generational trauma?
Journeying, of course.
I dove deep into what was locked within. I faced what was hidden and uncovered this truth—waiting to be discovered and brought back into right alignment at the perfect time.
There are layers to this. You can’t just do one healing and think that’s it. ✨ I’m healed. ✨ No honey, it doesn’t work that way. There are layers to this. As I dug deeper, branches of this generational conditioning took shape in the form of competition (Who can make the most money? Who has the best occupation? Who is the smartest? Who is the prettiest?). Then that creates more generational conditioning and further trauma because it takes us further away from our TRUTH.
Here is where it gets juicy.
When you heal traumas birthed from generational conditioning…you put a stop to it.
Read that again.
Future generations will no longer suffer from these old agreements—antiquated false truths—because someone in their lineage was brave enough to step forward and chose to heal.
By doing this healing, you liberate future generations and rush in a world of love, acceptance, and authenticity.
Is this the key to saving the world? Of course.
If there is anything 2020 has revealed, it’s that we need more authentic love for one another.
But what is standing in the way?
Unhealed parts of ourselves. Blockages to our chakras caused by the traumatic experiences handed down through societal conditioning.
To create change, we must shed light on the darkest parts of ourselves because darkness cannot exist in the light.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
